Jane Stephens Creates New Rural Rabies Awareness Campaign

Illustrated public-information series will promote responsible pet ownership and vaccination in rural communities across northern France.

British illustrator Jane Stephens has been commissioned to create a series of animal-led illustrations for a new French Government rabies-awareness campaign. Stephens was selected following discussions and a competitive process after her portfolio was introduced to the project team through a former French public-sector client from her earlier advisory career.

The first series features a dog, fox and bat, combining bold hand-drawn portraits with concise practical guidance on vaccination, responsible pet ownership and appropriate responses to risk. The campaign will be adapted for use in veterinary surgeries, community buildings and rural settings across northern France.

“Public information has to be understood before it can be admired. The animals needed enough presence to stop someone at a distance, but the practical advice had to remain unmistakable.”

Notes to editors

The initial campaign comprises three principal animal illustrations and a small range of supporting applications. Original artwork combines ink drawing, coloured pencil and digital preparation. French-language public-information copy was reviewed by the relevant commissioning authority.
