Beyond Nature: New Work by Jane Stephens
Private London exhibition brings together animal studies, domestic scenes and mixed-media work.
Beyond Nature, a private exhibition of paintings, drawings and mixed-media work by Jane Stephens, will take place in London this autumn. The show brings together recent animal studies with quieter domestic images made between West Sussex and London.
The title reflects Stephens’s interest in the moment when observed nature becomes narrative. Birds, foxes and household objects recur throughout the exhibition, often arranged so that the viewer appears to have entered shortly after—or shortly before—an unexplained event.
“I am not trying to make animals behave like people. I am interested in how little is required before we begin to suspect that they already do.”
